The Hispanic/Latino culture and its wonders are celebrated around the entire United States of America. People of all ages and cultures enjoy the tasty food dishes, music, different languages, and holiday traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. This culture is also well known for the hospitality and happiness of its people.

To earn the ¡Viva! La Cultura Latina Patch, you will need to complete a certain number of activities per each Discover, Connect, and Take Action section of this program kit.

After you’ve completed this program kit, you can visit our GSGI Retail Shops to purchase your patch!

Juneteenth Patch Program toggle arrow

What is Juneteenth? Juneteenth combines “June” and “nineteenth.” It’s also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Emancipation Day.

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation officially ending slavery. However, the practice still remained in some parts of the country that did not receive the news. It wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that the news regarding the end of the Civil War and the abolishment of slavery made it to the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. Celebrations throughout the newly free Black community followed, which in time became an annual tradition across the United States.

Juneteenth is a time to gather with family and community, honor the present, and reflect on shared history and tradition.

GSGI Climate Challenge 2022 toggle arrow

Join Malani the Hawaiian Monk Seal and take on the GSGI Climate Challenge! The GSGI Climate Challenge encourages all Girl Scouts to get outdoors and learn about climate science, connect with your communities to understand how they're impacted by climate change, and help spread awareness of the issues to create sustainable change.

BONUS: All GSGI Girl Scouts who participate in the challenge between September 20 through October 20, can enter for a chance to take the giant Malani stuffed animal home! Take the national outdoor challenge! Check out the challenge sheet to choose which activities you'd like to do to earn yourself a brand-new patch. Summer is the perfect time to celebrate our love of the great outdoors. You have so many options for how to explore-from your window, a campsite, the sidewalk, or an open trail. Use #gsoutdoors to share your adventures and see how other girls are completing this challenge. The challenge begins in May and ends with Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend, September 1O and 11, 2022.
