Fort Dodge area Girl Scouts in GSGI’s Mission Outreach programs dressed up in their Halloween costumes and went to work making pumpkin pie kits for donation to The Lord’s Cupboard Community Pantry, a local resource for emergency food assistance. Girl Scouts made 50 pumpkin pie kits, measuring sugar and spices, decorating recipe cards and bags, writing warm wishes to include in the bags, and packing the kits which included all the ingredients and instructions needed to make a pumpkin pie. The pumpkin pie kits will be included in holiday boxes with other meal fixings for local families during the winter holiday season. Service is an important part of the Girl Scout experience. Projects like this give girls an opportunity to live according to the Girl Scout Law, emphasizing consideration, caring, and making the world a better place through their actions. These experiences also foster empathy, as Girl Scouts see how their contributions can enrich other’s holidays and think about what situations might be like for other people.
