Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa wrapped up an incredible experience with the Des Moines North High School Girls Soccer Team. The team joined GSGI staff for a DataSetGold workshop, a program supported by the Principal Foundation to introduce the concepts of data science in a fun and meaningful way.
Through this program, team members learned how to analyze and present data, using their new skills to tell the story of their team. Their presentations highlighted powerful topics like disparities in funding for women’s sports, the impact of Title IX on gender equity, and the benefits of youth sports participation—all backed by real data. The team divided in groups and showcased North High School Girl's soccer statistics, proving the incredible growth and success they’ve had over the past decade.
Beyond the numbers, the participants shared how their soccer team is more than just a sport—it’s a safe space to meet new friends, build confidence, and support one another. Additionally, thanks to their hard work in DataSetGo, they earned amazing funds to help support their team throughout the season.
We're so proud of these young leaders for using data to advocate for change and celebrate the power of sports. Way to go, Polar Bears!
A huge thank you to Principal Foundation for their incredible support of DataSetGold and for empowering girls with data science skills that will benefit them far beyond the soccer field!
