Volunteer Training

We are committed to giving you the tools you need to succeed in your volunteer position! Check out these training opportunities available through Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa.

  • Troop Leader Academy: Foundations – Designed for new leaders, this sixty-minute, self-paced, online training will show you what it takes to be a Girl Scout troop leader – the Girl Scout Promise and Law, badges and patches, our product programs, holding troop meetings, and more. By the end of this training, you’ll know the basics every troop leader should know!
Troop Leader Academy: Foundations is accessed through gsLearn - an online training platform for Girl Scout volunteers. To access gsLearn, click on the yellow MyGS on the green bar at the top of our website — Enter your username and password to log in to the Member Community. If you have forgotten your password, click "Forgot Your Password?" to be sent a link for a new password. Logging in to the Member Community gives you the option to log into your Member Profile, Volunteer Toolkit, or gsLearn. Once you've logged in to gsLearn, click Content Library to see the trainings available to you. If you have questions about gsLearn or need help logging in to the system, please email
Please note: If this is your first time logging into gsLearn, the Content Library may be blank. Log out and log back in through MyGS. It may take up to 30 minutes for the Content Library to load.

  • GSGI also hosts one hour Troop Leader Discussions – a time to meet (virtually) with other leaders from around the council on topics like What to Expect as a New Troop Leader, Engaging Troops Online, focused conversations on each Girl Scout Program level (Daisies, Brownies, etc.), Girl Scout ceremonies and traditions, and more! Keep an eye on our Event Calendar for dates and times.
  • First Aid/CPR Training - GSGI recommends each troop secure a Troop First Aider, a registered adult volunteer trained in First Aid and CPR. In partnership with the American Red Cross, we offer a blended learning training option for volunteers. Once you register for a session, you’ll receive a link to complete your at-home portion (on a PC or tablet), which must be completed prior to attending the in-person skills test. Allow approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to complete the online portion and 2 hours for the in-person portion.
  • Cookie and Fall Product Program Training - Be sure to check out The Bridge for links to training webinars for the Fall Product and Cookie Programs each year, as well as training recordings if you miss the webinar! These trainings ensure you're prepped and ready to go when the programs start each fall and winter.
