On April 12, 2025, GSGI celebrated Circle of Excellence. This year’s '90s themed event celebrated all things Girl Scouts while honoring our Volunteer Award Recipients, Gold Award Girl Scouts, and Graduating Girl Scouts.
152 Girl Scout Juniors achieved their Bronze Award, 18 Cadette Girl Scouts achieved their Silver Award, and 11 Girl Scouts achieved their Gold Award – the highest award in Girl Scouting.
Sadie, a graduating senior from Gilbert, Iowa, was one of the 11 Girl Scouts who received their Gold Award. To achieve her award, she interviewed veterans in her community about their time in the military and how it affected them. Sadie gathered advice that veterans had for generations to come who are thinking about joining the military. She then took their stories and posted them to a blog that was shared to the American Legion – a nonprofit organization that supports veterans, service members, and their families.
“I’ve grown up in a military family – my dad served, my brother is currently serving, and I plan to serve as well, so I really wanted to hear different stories, different opportunities, and different jobs in the military,” Sadie said.
Sadie has been a Girl Scout for 13 years and said receiving her Gold Award is something she had been looking forward to.
“It felt awesome – it's been something I've been working towards for a very long time and being able to go up on stage and accept it felt so surreal,” Sadie said. “I was so glad to be able to.”
Additionally, with April being Volunteer Appreciation month, there were several awards recognizing the volunteers who play a crucial role in helping shape the future of Girl Scouts. Rookie of the Year, Man of the Year, Teamwork Awards, Volunteer of Excellence aAwards, Appreciation Pins, Thanks Badges, and CEO awards were awarded to several of GSGI’s parents and volunteers.
The day consisted of '90s outfits and decor, a dance party with GSGI CEO, Beth Shelton, sing-alongs, and altogether Girl Scout celebration.
