Providing Girl Scouts a Cookie Experience in a Distanced World

The Girl Scout Cookie Program officially kicked off on February 1 across Greater Iowa, and girls are off and running, developing important life skills while becoming entrepreneurs. Traditionally, Girl Scouts sell cookies to friends and family, door-to-door in their neighborhoods, and stationed at cookie booths outside of local businesses.

While things are undoubtably a bit different this cookie season, GSGI remains committed to providing girls a cookie experience that will set them up for success in their futures.

A lot of the cookie program looks the same as prior years, but with added safety for Girl Scouts and their customers. In addition to the traditional forms of sales, girls now have many virtual cookie-selling options as well.

To start the cookie season off, GSGI hosted a virtual Cookie Kick-Off event, drawing more than 1,000 Girl Scouts to hear from women entrepreneurs and small business owners, learn all about the upcoming cookie season, and practice their cookie knowledge with fun games and exercises.

As girls begin to sell, they’ll utilize more distanced ways of selling, including virtual cookie booths with their troops, contact-free cookie delivery, and a partnership with national food delivery service, GrubHub!

Girls are also equipped with tools to sell using social media and other digital marketing by creating videos to share with friends and family, including fun parody songs, skits, and straight up sales pitches to go for their goals.  They create unique QR codes for flyers and to hand out to customers or hung on doors.

Cookie buyers who don’t know a Girl Scout can visit the Cookie Finder app or website to search by zip code for a troop to purchase from near them, or to have cookies shipped directly to their doo!

The Girl Scout Cookie Program runs from February 6 through March 28, 2021. When you buy Girl Scout Cookies, you feed joy and make a difference with every box. Proceeds stay local to power life-changing programs, experiences, and learning all year long!
