Destinations: An informational event to help you explore travel opportunities!

Description: Girl Scout destinations, travel experiences that range from two days to three weeks for girls 6th grade and older, can whisk girls to the far corners of the world where she will meet remarkable girls, develop leadership skills, gain confi dence, and enjoy valuable learning opportunities. Discover the opportunities to travel the world through Girl Scouts of the United States’ Destinations program. Facilitators
will provide assistance with paperwork and give girls a chance to discuss the opportunities available through national and international Destinations. All older girls, leaders, and parents are encouraged to attend.

Weekend Getaway: Dubuque: May 1 - 2, 2010, grades 6-10

Description: Join us as we explore the wonders of Dubuque, including staying at Grand Harbor Resort and Water Park. Our bus will leave Saturday, May 1, 2010 from the Mason City Leadership Center, then travel to Dubuque. Cost includes transportation, hotel, one meal, and any admissions. Activities and destinations will be determined by the girls during planning sessions prior to the trip. Volunteers are needed to assist with this event – please contact the Mason City Leadership Center for more information.

Cost to Attend: $90* for both girl and adult participants. $25 deposit is due by registration deadline. *approximate fee. Final fee will be determined by girl’s planning.

 

Kansas City Here We Come: June 15 - 17, 2010, grades 6-10

Description: Girls 6th grade and older are invited to experience three days and two nights in the Midwest’s cultural center. Some activities that are available include: the dynamic and energetic Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City fi lled with famous name shops, incredible restaurants, and lots of lights and energy; the restored Union Station; Hallmark Visitor’s Center; the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum; Worlds of Fun Water Park; and if the Royals are playing a home game, see a professional baseball team in action. Activities and destinations will be determined by the girls during planning sessions prior to the trip. Pick-ups for this destination will be Des Moines and Council Bluffs. Volunteers are needed to assist with this event – please contact the Council Bluffs Leadership Center for more information.

Cost to Attend: $395 for both girl and adult participants. $50 deposit is due by registration deadline. *approximate fee. Final fee will be determined by girl’s planning.

 

Moonlight Animal Adventure: July 17-18, grades 2-3

Description: Join us on a bus ride to the Kansas City Zoo for an overnight adventure!  Bring your flashlight because we will be going on a night hike to discover night time animal behavior!  Sleep in the Sun Room and wake to find which animals are already awake!  Girls will earn and receive the Watching Wildlife Try-It.  Girls must be accompanied by an adult.  Packing list sent upon confirmation.

Cost to Attend: $100 for both girl and adult participants. 

All Aboard For Chicago: July 22 - 26, 2010, grades 8-12

Description: Ride the Amtrak train with us to the Windy City for a weekend of fun, shopping, and touring. Register in time to be a part of the planning process! Meetings begin in December! Some of the activities that are available include: the Adler Planetarium, John G. Shedd Aquarium and Oceanarium, Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, and the Hancock Observatory. Also, no trip to this great city would be complete without a shopping/touring excursion to Navy Pier. Volunteers are needed to assist with this event – please contact the Fort Dodge Leadership Center for more information.

Cost to Attend: $395 for both girl and adult participants. $50 deposit is due by registration deadline. *approximate fee. Final fee will be determined by girl’s planning.


Savannah Bound: July 22 - 30, 2010, grades 6-12

Description: Walk the same path as Juliette Gordon Low did so many years ago when we travel by motor coach to Savannah, Georgia. Some things you could experience include: a ghost stroll, a dolphin cruise, visiting the Girl Scouts First Headquarters, riding a trolley, visiting Tybee Island, strolling along the Atlantic beach, or enjoying a fantastic meal at Paula Dean’s Lady & Sons restaurant. Cost of the trip includes transportation, food, and all admission/activity fees (fuel surcharge may apply)

NOTE: The first girl/parent planning meeting will be conducted November 7 at the Des Moines Leadership Center from 1-3 pm. Other planning meetings will be held prior to the trip. Volunteers are needed to assist with this event – please contact the Des Moines Leadership Center for more information.

Cost to Attend: $1,175* for girls and $800* for adults. $50 deposit is due by registration deadline. *approximate fee. Final Fee will be determined by girl's planning.

 

Missouri Cave Exploration: Aug. 2 - 6, 2010, grades 9-12

Description: Explore the fascinating world of the underground. View exotic rock formations, discover underground streams and waterfalls, and work your way through narrow passageways as you discover the secrets to life below the earth’s surface. We will be touring extravagant commercial caves as well as taking personal treks through caves less traveled. You don’t know anything about caves? Don’t worry! One of our
fi rst stops will be a course on caves. Pick-ups for this destination will be determined once registrations have been received. Volunteers are needed to assist with this event – please contact the Council Bluffs Leadership Center for more information.

Cost to Attend: $395* for girls and $195* for adults. $50 deposit is due by registration deadline. *approximate fee. Final Fee will be determined by girl's planning.

 

Asian Adventure: June 11 - 25, 2011, grades 9-12

Description: Ohayou gozaimasu is “Good morning” in Japanese. Learn this phrase and many others during your fourteen day tour of Japan. The trip will include a few days with girls from USA Girl Scouts Overseas-West Pacific (Girl Scouts stationed overseas with their military families in Asia), traveling on Japan’s famous “Shinkansen” Bullet train to Hiroshima and Kyoto, interaction with the Girl Scouts of Japan and a day at Tokyo Disney Sea theme park. Included in the price is round trip airfare, transfers to and from hotels, train fees, hotel accommodations (shared rooms), continental breakfast and dinner daily. Details of our fourteen days of this exciting adventure will be selected by the girls during the planning process. Volunteers are needed to assist with this event – please contact the Des Moines Leadership Center for more information.

Cost to Attend: $4,000* for both girl and adult participants. $250 deposit is due by registration deadline. *approximate fee. Final Fee will be determined by girl's planning.

 

Adventure Through Europe: July 15 - 31, 2011, grades 9-12

Description: Enjoy seventeen days and fi fteen nights touring Europe! Among the memorable sightseeing stops will be Our Chalet in Adelboden, Sweden, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, a Gondola Ride in Venice, Italy, a castle tour, a visit to Anne Frank’s House, and walking tours of Paris, and London. Included in the price is round trip airfare, transfers to and from hotels, hotel accommodations, continental breakfast and dinner daily, and full-time services of an EF Tour Director. Specific details on all seventeen days of this exciting adventure can be obtained by contacting the Council Bluffs Leadership Center.

Cost to Attend: $4,362 for girls (based on 20 participants - EF Tours) and $4,937 for adults. $250 non-refundable deposit is required by EF Tours by the registration deadline.
