Cherokee: You want to wear makeup, but do you know what lipstick, eye shadow and mascara are made out of? Come explore the science behind cosmetics. Find out where materials come from, how they are developed, and the effect on your community and the world. We will discuss being a responsible consumer; then we’ll relax as we create an all natural spa day experience with everyday items such as an egg white facial mask! You will earn and receive the Got Cosmetology Badge. A snack will be provided.

Joy Hollow: What do you think about when you hear the word “camping”? Do you think of cooking over a campfire and telling stories? How about tying knots and hiking trails? Join us for dinner around the campfire and activities bound to make you want to pitch a tent and go camping! You will earn and receive the Ready, Set, Go Camping Try-It.

Council Bluffs: Discover the art of Tahitian Dance! More than just a dance, we will learn how this art is important to Tahitian culture and understand the story told by its movements. We will even make our own leis! During the last fifteen minutes of the event, parents and guardians are welcomed and invited back to watch you perform the dance moves you have learned. Carlisle and Mason City: Let’s get ready to RACE! Join us for a Powder Puff Derby! Create your own car out of pinewood and bring it to the event to race against other girls your age. Awards will be given out at the end of the race. Girls must create their own car, and can only use cars they have created during the 2009-2010 school year. Further instructions and rules are available with your car kit. Contact your local Leadership Center to secure your car today. *Price is reduced by $5 if a car is not needed.

Carlisle: Girls, are you ready to learn some helpful cooking tips for college? It doesn’t have to be all ramen noodles and popcorn! Join us and learn ways to shop for affordable meals and cook while you’re away at college. Learn your way around the kitchen, plus receive helpful tips on preparing quick, healthy, delicious meals in a limited space, by both microwave and traditional stove. You will even make your own recipe book to take home with you! You will work towards completing part of the Creative Cooking Interest Project Patch, and take home a list of the remaining requirements that you can easily finish on your own.

Joy Hollow: Seventy percent of the earth is water, but will clean resources always be there when we need some? What are we doing to maintain our usable supply? Explore answers to these questions and many more as we look at, test, and discover what is in our water supply. We will learn what we can do to have safe water for swimming, drinking and more. Each participant will need to brink a sack lunch and drink.

Professionals from your community will teach you the skills to tackle simple home repairs and to recognize when to ask for help with projects requiring specific expertise. Joy Hollow: It is so much fun to be a Daisy - and then being able to transition to being a BROWNIE! Have you heard the full “Brownie Story”? Do you know which parts make up a Brownie Girl Scout Uniform? Come and see the first Brownie uniform and explore everything about Brownie Girl Scouts. You will also have a chance to learn about the founder of the Girl Scout Movement, Juliette Gordon Low. All girls will earn and receive the Her Story Try-it and the Brownie Beanie Basics Try-it. Iowa Falls: Join us as we learn the amazing artistry of baking. We will begin at a local bakery, where we will see firsthand how they decorate cakes! Watch as they make beautiful roses, piped-edging, and add a splash of color to cakes or cookies. Once we have had the chance to learn and observe, you can try it yourself! Come and learn some basic skills so that when you go home, you can wow everyone with your decorated holiday goodies. At this event you will earn and receive the Confectionarily Yours Try-It.

Eagle Grove: A mad scientist’s laboratory is a place full of discoveries and inventions! Come and discover how we use diff erent chemicals every day and how some of our best products were the results of mistakes! Complete hands-on activities and experiments to see just how things work! Sometimes, the chemicals we use can cause pollution and other negative eff ects. We’ll spend some time working together to fi nd ways everyone can address pollution in order to protect our planet!
