BASIC ORIENTATION: TRAINING FOR ADULTS WHO WORK WITH GIRLS

All leaders are expected to complete this session at their earliest convenience.

The online Volunteer Orientation is the first close-up view of the Girl Scout organization for all new volunteers. You will become acquainted with Girl Scouting and the many rewarding opportunities it offers girls and adults, by taking a stimulating, virtual sojourn with GSUSA’s new online Volunteer Orientation!

 

The engaging online session sets the foundation for:

  • Introduction and Welcome—provides instructions on how to navigate the orientation
  • About Girl Scouts—presents Girl Scout Mission, Promise and Law, history, and membership requirements
  • Girl Scout Pathways—illustrates various ways that members participate
  • Support for Volunteers—provides resources and support available to volunteers
  • Program—presents the three keys to leadership: discover - connect - take action, their outcomes, and the three processes: girl-led, learning by doing, cooperative learning
  • Learning Log and Conclusion—provide places for learners to answer questions
  • To enjoy the full benefits of the new online Volunteer Orientation, your PC or Mac should include these features*: Adobe Flash Player 8.0 or 9.0; ability to disable the pop-up blocker; sound (audio) card & speakers; high-speed Internet connection

  • The password to enter the site is: discover
  • Use this email; orientation@gsiowa.org for the email address of your volunteer manager.  Enter this in addition to your own. This will allow the Council to view your Learning Log to better serve you and answer questions you may have.

If needed, a more detailed instruction guide is available through your local Service Center.

 

*If you do not have Internet access or are not able to meet the computer needs, you may complete the Orientation in your home by utilizing the Volunteer Orientation CD packet available from your local Girl Scout Leadership Center.
