Girl Scouts, LEGOs, and Tidal Waves!
Have you ever heard of the FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®)? It’s an awesome program that gives girls a chance to design, build, program, and test LEGO® autonomous robots to meet real-world challenges! This month, 13 teams of Girl Scouts from all across our Council competed in FLL® Regional Competitions.
This year’s theme was “Nature’s Fury,” which challenged the teams to create projects that would help in a natural disaster like tornadoes, earthquakes, and tidal waves!
Our Girl Scout teams are doing great this year! On Dec. 7, teams competed across the state, and several earned top honors. Dorothy’s Revenge, a team from Sergeant Bluffs, won 3rd place at the Sioux City competition, earning them and their robot named “Toto” a place in the FLL Championships at Iowa State University on Jan. 18! Read more about Dorothy’s Revenge here!
The Timelords, competing in Cedar Falls, won an Exceptional Team Performance award in robot design! And this is the second year they’ve received honors! Read more about The Timelords here!
Interested in forming your own Girl Scout FIRST® LEGO® League team? It doesn't take a brilliant engineer to be a part of FLL. All it takes is someone with a sense of adventure, someone with curiosity of how things work, and someone who is looking to have a great time. Find your age below to discover what league you can participate in, and then contact Melissa White at email@example.com!

Girls Give Back
Five Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts from Fort Dodge Troop 10012 wanted to give back to their community this holiday season in a very unique way. Each November, during National Adoption Month, Webster City holds an Annual Adoption Saturday, where families come together to finalize the adoption of kids in foster care.
Troop 10012 wanted to take part in this joyful day and help make it an even more memorable one for the children who were being adopted. While the children waited their turn to enter the court room and join their family, the girls helped them make holiday ornament crafts, shared troop holiday games. They even used troop funds to buy the supplies!

The Season for Giving
Remember Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa for your year-end giving! Your generous donation helps girls in your community dream big.
A Gift to Last a Lifetime
For the first time ever, Girl Scouts has a commemorative coin, issued this year by the United States Mint, and the first dedicated to a girls’ organization. While this is exciting by itself, we also have the opportunity to earn $10 per coin sold for Girl Scout programs!
Councils across the county are working to sell 34,000 coins by Dec. 31 so we can reach the $1.5 million goal needed to receive the matching funds to support Girl Scout programs to build girls of courage, confidence, and character! Buy your one-of-a-kind gift online today!
GSGI offices will be closed from Dec. 23 - 27, and Dec. 31 - Jan. 1 for the holidays. For updated information on office closures due to weather or holidays, please visit our closings page.
