Joy Hollow

Nestled in 360 acres of the famed Loess Hills, Joy Hollow inspires nature awareness, appreciation and inspiration with its native prairie grass, spring-fed creek and natural beauty. The well-cared for facility offers treehouse-style sleeping cabins, an air-conditioned lodge, an arts & crafts room, a swimming pool, an archery range and low challenge obstacle course, hiking trails, fire rings, primitive camping area and much more!

The American Camp Association has deemed Joy Hollow as an accredited camp. The resident camp season runs from early June to mid August. For more information about attending camp or employment at Joy Hollow please contact the Camp Director or the Girl Scout Leadership Center.

All non-Girl Scout groups are REQUIRED to provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance in the amount of $1 million from your organization or personal insurance listing Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa as the certificate holder for the dates of your camp stay, and the appropriate facility for the location (i.e. Camp Sacajawea; Camp Tanglefoot; Camp Joy Hollow; or Camp Juliette).  Certificate must be received prior to your event.

About Abbie:

This year will be Abbie’s second summer as Camp Director at Camp Joy Hollow. Abbie is originally from Belmond and joined Girl Scouts as a Brownie in second grade. She attended Camp Tanglefoot for 13 years as a camper and went on to work at Camp Tanglefoot for 5 years. She has experience back country backpacking and teaching kayaking and outdoor cooking workshops at Iowa State Outdoor Recreation. She graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Child, Adult, and Family Services with an emphasis on Youth Development.

Abbie is also a Girl Services Manager for the Fort Dodge service area. Abbie’s favorite activities at camp are archery, hiking, and backpacking.

Abbie’s hobbies include mountain biking, reading, and walking her dog, Oscar.
