She's on a mission for women and girls.

You’ve heard of a black tie affair, but what about a green tie affair? Our Shades of Green Gala will take place on Friday, September 13 at Hilton Des Moines Downtown.

Our event chair, Gina Skinner-Thebo, founder of The Atwood Center for Women and current HR Manager for B&G Foods, and Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa supporter, was selected as chair of the event in light of her dedication and passion for serving women and young girls in our community.

Gina believes wholeheartedly in advancing women and girls' rights.  A wife and mother of three (soon to be four), she says she enjoys that part of her life the most. She's a friend and a natural born cheerleader. Her passion for supporting women and girls comes from her background and childhood.

“I was raised by a single mother.  I have 6 sisters and 1 brother.  I've always been surrounded by strong, high-achieving females.  They set the stage for me.  I want all women and girls to know their worth. To know they're worthy,” said Skinner-Thebo.

A Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa supporter for many years, Skinner-Thebo recognizes the Girl Scout mission and embraces it. “I want girls to have opportunities. I want them to have strong leaders, friends and fun experiences,” she said.

The Shades of Green Gala is a night of dinner, cocktails, and entertainment, along with a live and silent auction to benefit Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa. Skinner-Thebo is looking forward to a successful night, most importantly, “seeing so many people I love in one place, working toward supporting such an incredible mission.”

Tickets to the Gala are on sale now. Guests are invited to join us as we spend the evening making a difference in the lives of Girl Scouts across Iowa.

“When you support Girl Scouts, you're supporting future leaders.  It's actually a long term investment in our community,” said Skinner-Thebo.

P.S. – don’t forget your green attire!
