Build things! Be part of an all-girl robotics team! Build, test, and program robots together—then, showcase them or compete against other teams in Greater Iowa and beyond! Adult volunteers guide the teams through the challenge as they identify underlying problems and develop an innovative solution through research, critical thinking, and creativity. It’s a techie way to make the world a better place!

FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. (FLL Jr.):

Grades K-4 (Ages 6-10).

FLL Jr. features a real-world challenge to be solved by research, critical thinking, construction, teamwork, and imagination. Teams use LEGO® bricks to build a model with a motorized part and develop a coordinating poster to illustrate their journey.

FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL):

Grades 4-8 (Ages 9-14).

FLL teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They use their research findings to design, build, and program a robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS to compete at regional tournaments.

FIRST® TECH Challenge (FTC):

Grades 7-12 (Ages 12-18).

FTC is designed for those who want to compete head-to-head using a sports model. Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams.

FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC):

Grades 9-12 (Ages 14-18).

FRC combines sports with rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program a robot to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors.

HyperStream:

Grades 5-12.

HyperStream club participants complete real-world IT projects and activities that introduce students to fundamental tech competencies. Students receive job shadowing opportunities, presentations, internships, mentoring-and a statewide competition-the IT Olympics, at the end of the school year.
