Ready to learn about farming? Check out this exciting program, created through collaboration with DuPont Pioneer!

We already know there wouldn't be any Iowa farms without farmers, but did you know our farms are also supported by scientists and engineers? If you like science and math, Ag-Journey is a great program for you and your troop! Through Ag-Journey you can learn about the science of agriculture and how you can change the world through an ag-science career. 

As a companion of It's Your Planet - Love It! you will discover how you can change the world through food, science, conservation, and careers. A mix of hands-on experiments, girl activities, and Iowa facts bring agriculture to life for everyone in your troop!

Troops receive a bag of resources to keep, the Ag Journey volunteer guide, patch, and fun activities for girls.

Hands-Only CPR | Grades K-12

Sponsored by the Iowa Heart Foundation, GSGI is thrilled to offer several Hands-Only CPR Program Kits to our troops and groups. These kits include supplies to train Girl Scouts in performing Hands-Only CPR in the event of a medical emergency. 

After your troop/group completed the program, takes the post-program survey, and returns the kit to the council, you'll receive a patch for each girl!

Field Trips

You can go on a Girl Scout adventure that works for your troop’s schedule!

We’ve made it easy by setting up field trip opportunities with organizations across the council. Simply have your troop leader reach out using the information below, and set up a great trip with your Girl Scout sisters!

High Adventure Activity Sites

Sites listed below do not require a Horseback Riding Activity Application - they have been approved by Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa.

Chasing Laurels - Horseback Riding (Altoona)

Hey Girl Scouts! Ready to saddle up for a new adventure? Join Chase Corley, who has close to 30 years of experience, at Chasing Laurels to earn your Horseback Riding Badge. You will gain the skills you need to feel confident and comfortable around horses and even take a ride!

When you schedule a time with Chasing Laurels, they will work with the groups to provide drinks and a snack. As a BONUS: Chasing Laurels will provide each Girl Scout with a FREE riding lesson, to be used on a future date.

Everyone attending must print and sign a waiver.

Clinics will take between 2-2.5 hours (instruction and ride time). Clinics will be held rain or shine. Girl Scout groups are welcome to bring lunch to enjoy at the stables, or arrange with Chasing Laurels to have snacks and drinks available.

Cost: $35 per Girl Scout (Junior Horseback Riding badge included)

*Volunteers: It is still recommended that you submit a Plan 2 Insurance form for this approved horseback riding activity.  Chaperones are required for this session.*

Arbor Day Farms - Nebraska City

Arbor Day Farm offers coordinated programs and activities for Girl Scouts at all levels - from tree adventure and Arbor Lodge Mansion tours, to badge work tours including the Brownie Bugs badge, Junior Flowers badge, and Cadette Trees badge.

Available Year-Round: Monday - Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Bloomsbury Farms - St. Atkins

Bring your Girl Scouts and families for an unforgettable experience at Bloomsbury Farm!

Have a blast navigating and exploring miles of twisting and turning paths in our 10-Acre Corn Maze. With only a few clues carefully hidden to help guide you, this corn maze will stimulate the imagination, encourage team work and leave your Girl Scouts with memories that will last a lifetime.

There is also an exciting Gemstone Mining attraction, where budding Gemologists and Paleontologists experience uncovering hidden treasures in gemstones and fossils-the best part?! They can take their finds home! Gemstone Mining is not included with the cost of admission - $5 per person.

Cameron's Cooks: Cookies by Design - Des Moines

In this fun, hands-on class, you’ll learn how to take frosting and make it into edible art. You’ll laugh and learn alongside classmates as you practice piping skills and create beautifully decorated cookies.

Things to keep in mind: Classes are 1 – 1.5 hours long (expect to stand for most of the class), you'll try new foods and expand your taste buds, during hands on lessons you will learn how to measure, mix, prep & cook tasty eats, recipes are printed to take home, guardians are welcome to watch girls, but we ask that you respect their learning and let them be hands-on.

Learn fun, appropriate tips and tricks for making your own cupcake creations! As well as learning to fill, frost and decorate cupcakes, once we are done you are able to take the cupcakes home with you!

Dojo Family Martial Arts Bully Awareness and Protection Class - Des Moines

This class empowers today’s Girl Scouts by teaching them how to be prepared and handle a bully situation in a positive and non-violent way.

Frozen Yogurt 101 at Menchie's - Altoona

Join the Menchie's team in understanding how Frozen Yogurt is made, take a tour of the shop and learn about food preparation and cleanliness, product management, allergan management, and prep work.

Learn about the Menchie's story and store all while enjoying a yummy treat. Each Girl Scout will receive a free 5oz frozen yogurt coupon.

Girl Scout Yoga - Des Moines

Looking for a fun activity while engaging in physical activity? Join Billi Hughes as she leads your Girl Scouts through a 60-minute kids yoga session. Yoga is a way to exercise our bodies, our breath and our minds all at the same time. Girls will practice on how to focus and center themselves with various breathing and visualization techniques. They will also learn self-respect for others and themselves with fun challenging poses, partner & group poses, games & breath techniques. Completing this class can help with the Practice with a Purpose badge, My Best Self badge, or the Staying Fit badge. Plus, all who attend will receive a Yoga fun patch.

Earn either your Brownie Painting or your Brownie Pottery Badge in a workshop that includes gallery exploration and lots of hands-on fun in the art studio. Painting could be earned in 1 session, pottery would need to be done in 2 sessions. Chaperones must be with the girls at all times.
